Paper says Mica’s projects are “essential to improving Central Florida’s quality of life and its ability to compete in the modern economy.”
[WINTER PARK, Fla. – October 18, 2016] — The Orlando Sentinel endorsed John Mica’s return to Congress based on his track record of accomplishments in Central Florida and throughout the nation.
In the endorsement, the paper said:
“Mica has continued to wield — through his tireless efforts and two-decades-plus accumulation of institutional knowledge — outsized influence in how federal transportation funding is directed.
“His clout has been critical in securing the dollars to upgrade Interstate 4, build and extend SunRail, expand Orlando International Airport, and help finance other regional transportation projects. He’s already laying the groundwork for more I-4 upgrades and a SunRail airport link.
“These aren’t mere pork-barrel projects; they’re essential to improving Central Florida’s quality of life and its ability to compete in the modern economy.”
Furthermore, the Sentinel understood that Congressman Mica’s influence in Central Florida is more than just transportation. The paper listed his bi-partisan work for veterans and the simulation industry. It discussed his work on public housing and saving billions of dollars for taxpayers through “cracking down on waste in government.”
“With millions of dollars, Washington Democrats are continuing to show they will go low to buy this seat,” Mica said. “Having the endorsement of the Sentinel is important because they looked at the actual record of the candidates, not the nasty spin being played by D.C.”
