Since congressional redistricting in 2002, Republican voter registration has grown from 165,532 to 203,698 electors. The 39,256 new GOP voters increased the District’s Republican voter margin from 3.8% in 2002 to a 6.2% GOP lead in 2008.
In 2002, with redistricting, Congressman Mica’s 7th District was redrawn with 60% new voters. Even with a well financed opponent spending a record $5 million against $1.7 million, Rep. Mica scored a 60% to 40% win.
In 2004 Mica was unopposed. In 2006 he increased his winning margin to 63%, winning nearly 2-1 in majority Democrat registration counties like Putnam, with 65%.
With 488,330 voters and a record 24% increase in Republican voter registration, the 7th Congressional District continues to expand its GOP margin.
